Airpod voice (sound) input cutoff

When I connect my airpods (2nd gen) and speak on call/does a voice recording for the first few seconds (time varies) the voice input is completely cut off, it does pickup the sound input a little later but can get cut off again randomly in the middle of a voice call . When this occurs the other party on call can’t hear background noise either it’s completely silent for a few seconds. I have cleaned my airpods, its on latest firmware and I’ve also tried reconnecting multiple times , at first it appeared that when the phone is further the issue happens but now even if the phone is very close to the airpods the issue occurs.

My Iphone which the device is connected to is on IOS 15.4.

please help me out and let me know if this could be a software issue or a hardware issue!

Hi n23sym,


Let's make sure your iPhone is updated to iOS 15.7 or 16.0.3. This will install the latest features, bug fixes, security and privacy options available. It can also fix issue with the microphone while your AirPods are connected. To complete this, please follow each step below:



  1. "Back up your device using iCloud or your computer.
  2. Plug your device into power and connect to the internet with Wi-Fi.
  3. Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.
  4. Choose the software update that you want to install. You can choose to stay on iOS or iPadOS 15 and still get important security updates. Or you can choose the option to upgrade to iOS or iPadOS 16.

5. Tap Install Now. If you see Download and Install instead, tap it to download the update, enter your passcode, then tap Install Now. If you don't know your passcode, learn what to do."
