Constant drop down menus

I am constantly getting drop down menus when I am on my MAC. If I click a link on a page, I get a drop down menu. It takes constant clicking -- going off the page and clicking -- and if I'm lucky, it eventually goes away and I can go ahead and click the link I was wanting. This has just started in the last year or so. It's getting worse and worse. I've tried the suggestions regarding Preferences, Accessibility, etc. None of that works. Any ideas?

Maybe, in addition to the other advice, check your mouse system preferences? What you describe reminds me what I experienced when I tried to use my daughter's Mac and was not aware that she had defined "right-clock" to actually be a left click and vice versa. I have no idea why but her Mac is still like that more than 10 years later. She likes it. But for the rest of us, it causes undesired drop down menus ... maybe this happened to you also?

It would be better if you did not share a login, and then you could set the mouse handedness as preferred by each user in each login. Sharing Mac logins and sharing the same Apple ID all tend to end badly, and for various reasons.

We don't normally share a login, and I have a separate account of my own on her Mac with the mouse behavior that is normal right and left hand. However she had asked me to fix something under her account so I had to temporarily use her account that she logged in to for me. This meant that I had to experience her odd definitions for the mouse clicks for a short time. I certainly do know how to set up users and groups on Macs, all our Macs have separate accounts for all of us and always have!

I was simply pointing out to the original poster that reversing the right and left clicks in preferences (perhaps unintentionally) could produce some of the unwanted behaviors they were experiencing. It may not be the explanation but is easy enough to check in any case.
