Tried what? What is the exact error message? Older versions of iTunes may not be able to sync to device running the latest version of iOS.

Do you still have the old computer, its hard drive, a backup, or any device that was synced with it? Signing into the iTunes Store should give you access to your unhidden purchase history with the iTunes Store.
