Personal music transferred from old phone to new phone does not appear in Music app when new phone connected to laptop

I recently upgraded from an iPhone XS to an iPhone 14 Pro. I have music downloaded from many different sources on my laptop which were also on my phone. I transferred all my data from the old phone to the new phone and it all appears to be there. I can listen to all the music on my new phone. The problem is when I plug the new phone in to manage the music on it, it appears as though there is no music on the new phone in the Music app.

I would like to be able to see the music on my phone and delete things and add things but currently, it just looks there is no music there.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Make a playlist for what you want on the phone and sync with that. When you want to remove something from the phone you edit the list and sync, which is easier than drilling down in Finder to remove things.

See Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - Apple Community. Music is much less suited to manual management of devices, and any attempt to add new content might remove what is already there. Once everything is in your library you can choose whether to sync all of it, or say a subset of playlists to it, after which it should be easy to update it with further changes when you see fit. A temporary subscription to Apple Music may be the easiest way to extract all of your music.

Thanks for the response. Yesterday I decided to try adding an album that wasn't already on the new phone and as soon as I did, it erased/replaced everything that was on there in an instant. Lol, I didn't think you could delete 500gb that quickly but it was really like it had never been there. Fortunately it all is on my laptop. I don't sync because I simply have too much music to have it all on the phone, even with this 1tb SSD on the new phone.
