What is the red area on Apple Maps? I have searched online but can only find grey and green. Seems to be in quite a few areas.

That may be terrain differences. Almost looks like red clay.
It’s just a different source of imagery for those areas. Maybe they had clouds one day so they had to pick some other images to replace them. But those other images were at a different time of day, atmospheric conditions, sensor, angle, etc.
That IS interesting that the “red” area encompasses just the Tucson metro area.
It’s as if a line was hand-drawn around the entire area; and apparently NOT “geologically” derived.
Apparently another set of imagery was used for the region; perhaps at a different resolution for the more densely populated area … ?
