A Locked iPhone:

Being this so-called friend of yours has not logged out of it, it is locked under her account. She needs to unlock this herself. Once unlocked, have here perform as instated here: What to do Before you Sell, Give Away, or Trade In your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support.
