I think I downloaded a malicious extension to my MacBook Pro

well it finally happened, I fell for a pop up that looked just like a “[insert website] wants to send you notifications - block or allow” pop up you’d see on Google chrome. It opened into a website that then seemed like Google chrome was suggesting an extension program that would block unwanted ads. I installed it and then realized ~wait this isn’t on a valid google website~ and automatically removed the extension, deleted it etc. I ran a virus scan that told me that website was malicious. It would’ve told me the extension was malicious too but I no longer had it installed. Nothing weird has happened… I did a full scan of my mac and it found no malware in my computer, and I’m updating to the most current mac software after reading its ability to scan & remove malware. What do you guys think, is everything okay? Should I do anything else? Thanks for your help.

From what you described you did nothing harmful.

If a website asks to allow notifications just say no. Most websites are garbage and their sole reason for being is to bombard you with advertisements. Nothing new there.

If you downloaded and installed an extension for Google Chrome and no longer want it, just delete that extension.

Yes.

Should I do anything else?

Uninstall whatever "virus scan" product you installed. Those things are garbage too.
