Why have my contacts disappeared

We'd like to help provide some guidance in assisting with your contacts. Typically contacts are either from an email account that you sync or through iCloud.

To start, we suggesting visiting iCloud.com to see if you can view the contacts online: View contacts on iCloud.com - Apple Support

If you see the contacts online, then that indicates iCloud Contacts isn't syncing to your iPhone as expected. Check out the troubleshooting for iCloud Contacts here: If your iCloud Contacts, Calendars, or Reminders won’t sync - Apple Support

"Things to check first

1. Check the system status of iCloud Contacts, Calendars, or Reminders to check for services outages or connection issues.
2. If a reminder isn't showing up on some of your devices, make sure that your iPhone and iPad have the latest version of iOS or iPadOS, or that your Mac has the latest version of macOS.
3. Make sure that you're signed in to iCloud with the same Apple ID on all of your devices. Then, check that you turned on Contacts, Calendars, and Reminders in your iCloud settings.
4. Check the date and time settings on your device to make sure they're correct for your current location."

If the contacts aren't with iCloud, then ensure you have Contacts turned on for each email account you have added to your iPhone to ensure the contacts sync to the iPhone as expected: Manage and delete contacts on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

"Turn Contacts on or off for an account

Want to add or remove all of the contacts from an account that you already set up? Just turn Contacts on or off for that account:

1. Go to Settings > Contacts > Accounts.
2. Tap the account that has contacts that you want to add or remove.
3. To add contacts, turn on Contacts. To remove contacts, turn off Contacts, then tap Delete from My iPhone."
