Dictation in Pages

I have MACOS Monterey, and Pages 12.1

I initiated dictation by the Apple > Preferences > keyboard > dictation. Page's Dictation worked briefly, but now does not. I cannot get rid of the microphone icon on my screen. I've tried the two alternatives of "automatic" and "internal". Neither makes a difference. I've restarted computer a couple times - no change. In Pages > Edit; there is supposed to be a choice of "dictation." But dictation is not listed in the "edit" drop down menu. What else can I do to get dictation to work; or, alternatively how do I get rid of the microphone icon on my screen?
