I have a iMac 27 inch 2020 running system Monterey 12.6. I have a Thunderbolt 3 USB-C Port free.
Can I connect an LG monitor to the iMac? It is a LG 2008 model W1942T (Flatiron 19") and has input ports for D-SUB and DVI-D cables.
I see cables available for USB-C to DVI-D (Male). Would this be the correct cable to get. And would it work with my iMac?

It should work. I have a Samsung monitor that dates from 2011 and it still works with a DVI adaptor.
The DVI and older monitor may be good enough for what you need. However to take advantage of the ultra-high quality of the images from your iMac, you might consider getting a modern HDMI monitor, which uses a USB-C to HDMI adaptor. There are high quality monitors from Dell and Samsung and others; some provide additional expansion ports (e.g. a powered hub) that you can plug other devices into, and some provide charging functions and even sound speakers (via HDMI).

Thank you for your advice. Adding the second monitor is more vanity than necessity. And the LG monitor was free, so I wanted to try it out. I just did not want to get a cable or set up, that would not work. Maybe after working with the second monitor a while, I'll get spoiled and have to up grade to HDMI.
