airpods are connected to another icloud

So I bought the new airpods pro 2 and since they weren't working on my phone because I didn't have the IOS 16 update yet (btw that is so stupid), I tried connecting them on my friend's phone to see if the problem was coming from the airpods. Now, it says that my friend OWNS MY AIRPODS ??!! and they removed it from they find my and everything, still says they OWN IT. Now please don't tell me that i actually need to BE in person with my friend because i wont get to see them for a long time. How am I suppose to connect my airpods to my Icloud ?

It makes perfect sense, and you should certainly expect to see similar requirements in the future when purchasing newly released hardware. The software that governs the newly released hardware must also be current.

they removed it from the[y] find my

Thoroughly?
