Lock Screen temporarily blurred

iOS 16.0.2 iPhone 14 Pro

I've found that the image on my lock screen gets temporarily blurred. This is not the normal blurring and fading when swiping up. The whole image just looks blurred. I have not been able to figure out what causes it. Nor have I figured out what brings it back to normal.

The image is from my Photos resident on the iPhone, and it's one I've used for a lock screen since iPhone XS. The lock screen is not customized.

Hey there Klahane,

You mentioned that the Lock Screen wallpaper becomes blurry, but only sometimes. However, you also mentioned that it becomes this way when swiping up, but this is expected behavior upon unlocking your iPhone and swiping down, then up to view the Home Screen a second time.

To clear things up, what exactly leads you to believe this is unexpected behavior? The more details, the better.

In the meantime, we'd like to rule out some other possible causes:

  1. Sometimes unexpected behavior can be resolved with a restart: Restart your iPhone
  2. Does the same issue occur if you test setting a different photo as the Lock Screen wallpaper?

Cheers!

As you write, it's normal behavior when swiping up from the bottom of the screen and swiping to the right.

In the cases I mentioned, the lock screen image stays blurry.

The problem with troubleshooting is that I can't duplicate the issue. I was just wondering if anyone else had seen the same thing.

I'll keep watching and see if I can supply any more information.

I have gathered some data.

This blurring occurs rarely when I pull my iPhone 14 Pro out of my jeans pocket. It also has occurred a couple of times putting the iPhone into a leather holder in my car. (The leather touches the screen.)

I can dismiss the blurred image by swiping up and unlocking the iPhone. But swiping left or right doesn't necessarily change the burred image.

I have replaced the image I use for a lock screen by editing the original in Photos.app on my Mac, then syncing my iPhone, then choosing the edited image in lock screen customization, along with changing the font customization.

I still can't reproduce the problem deliberately.

Also, I want to emphasize that this is not a big deal, and it's easy to work around. It is curious, however.
