Apple Watch 6 series pairing problem

Hi, I’m trying to pair my Apple Watch 6 series with iPhone 12 Pro Max for the first time. After pairing, iPhone displays this message : unable to check for update, checking for a software update failed because you are not connected to the internet.

PS: my iPhone is connected to both wifi and 5G. iOS 16.2. Bluetooth is on.

Please advise. Thank you.

Why ain’t my watch pairing with my phone Watch is stuck on the software update it says it won’t verify because it’s not on Wi-Fi but won’t connect to Wi-Fi either.
