Never mind. I figured it out.... I had two different logins - one for the apple id and another for the imessages. I aligned the Imessage with that Apple ID and everything is working.

what happens if you press the return key on the keyboard after typing in some text?
nothing happens.
Actually, this morning it tried to send, but it wasn't delivered. I have no idea why, the internet is up and running at 100mb down and 90mb up. Text SHOULD work.
