Will I be able to transfer data between old and new phone if my old phone screen is not working? The phone is still working, I can hear messages, talk to siri etc, just the screen is black.

Try this on old phone If your iPhone won't turn on or is frozen - Apple Support
IF that doesn't work, you' need to use your backups to restore data to new phone.

No. You will not be able to transfer data when the old iPhone’s display is not functional. There are a few authentication related
interactions with the iPhone that are required to complete the task.
