Wired keyboard

I just bought a new magic keyboard for my old Mac. Wired to USB port.

getting error message that Mac can’t find wireless keyboard. Not wireless

can’t navigate in computer until I can type in a password

im stuck

iMac 27″, macOS 10.14

Before I forget, make sure the keyboard is actually on using the switch on the back.

Thanks. Didn’t realize the hard wired keyboards had a switch - thought that was only on Bluetooth

that was it. (I’d already tried multiple ports)

You're welcome. Actually there are no hard wired Apple keyboards anymore. They come with a charging cable which acts like a wired keyboard when plugged in.
