Recovering messages not working for messages deleted after update to iOS 16

I updated to iOS 16 but the option to see and recover recently deleted messages only worked for messages deleted AFTER the update. I want to recover one I accidentally deleted right before it. Help?

IOS 16 Messages after installed didn’t have an option to restore a deleted Messages convo that was deleted today. Is there no way to retrieve this convo in 16? While trying to erase a spam text message, I ended up deleting a long-standing conversation that I wanted to retrieve. There was no option in my version of iOS to do so, so I downloaded 16 to obtain the retrieve feature. However, after 16 was installed, there were no deleted messages showing. I then deleted a random message as a test and saw that one show up in the recently deleted area. After I restored that test deletion text message, it then showed there were no recently deleted messages again. Is there no way for me to retrieve this initially deleted conversation that I deleted before I downloaded 16? Is that data stored somewhere that can be retrieved without downloading a previous backup?

My iPhone doesn’t show recent deleted messages how can I get my messages back when I already updated my phone ? I updated my i0s 16 but I accidentally deleted my messages but it doesn’t show recent deleted messages why not ?

Retrieving deleted messages from iPhone 12 I have an iPhone 12, IOS 16.3.1 I accidentally deleted all messages from a contact this morning. I have followed the instructions for retrieving deleted messages, but when I tap on "Edit" in the top left corner of the messages screen I am not being given the "Show deleted messages" button. How can I retrieve my messages? NB I do not have filtering on.

If you use messages in iCloud, you cannot recover.

If you do not use messages in iCloud, and you have a device backup that contains the message, you can factory reset and erase your device. Then, restore it using your backup.
