Final cut pro out of sync

Hello.

Audio is out of sync in final cut pro. Ive checked to ensure the frame rates and sample rates and resolution are correct for both the project file and the clips im recording. This happens when i import via the facetime camera on the iMac (which would be ideal) and it also happens with video recorded on iphone 11. Audio interface is universal audio apollo x4. Sample rate is set correctly on that as well.

Ive tried 44.1 kHz and 48kHz. also checked the audio setting in the audio midi setup app to make sure it is all correct. Video will play in sync on the phone and the ipad. Once imported the audio plays a a little behind. By anything around 100ms to almost 700 ms. I feel like ive exhausted everything i can think of. I may be repeating troubleshooting steps at this point.

Any ideas?

Check the file iPhone files in MediaInfo or Invisor. It’s possible the mobile devices are using variable video frame rate, which basically makes the video unstable. If so it should be converted to a regular frame rate and 48K. Don’t know how you’re using the external device. Unfortunately phones don’t use the standard audio sample rate used in video. It might work better off you use an app like Filmic Pro, though I don’t think even it can stabilize the frame rate. I have tried it lately.

Any idea why video recorded with the FaceTime camera of the iMac does the same thing? I also forgot to mention that I’ve also tried this with a Zoom Q8 camera. Set to the correct set to 1080p 24 bit and a sample rate of 48kHz. Same results.

Have you tested removing the external audio device (temporarily) by switching to the internal speakers and then checking sync?

In the case of using the FaceTime camera, are you recording video from the camera and audio via the interface to create the video file?

Have you exported a project where this out of sync condition occurs and then tested the exported video to see if the out of sync condition also appears in the exported file?

As a side note, I have experienced latency issues when monitoring FCP with video on the computer screen and audio being routed to an external audio interface.

Sorry I forgot to clarify.

The audio interface is running into the iMac and supplying the audio to and from Final Cut Pro. Not the iPhone
