I can't set up Comcast mail on Apple Mail v16 (under Monterey). I can log in to the Xfinity web mail so my user name and password are correct. I keep getting a dialog box that says "Unable to verify account name or password". Can someone help me.
I think I can help. Oftentimes the easiest solution is to delete the account in Mail and set up a new account. For some reason when Mail is sending your user ID and password to Comcast something has gotten messed up and the data being received is not correct. Therefore, no connection can be established.
Thanks so much, Ronasara. Unfortunately, there isn't an account to delete in Mail. I was never able to set up the account. I keep getting the "Unable to verify account name or password" message when I attempt to add the account. Like I said earlier, I can log in to the account in Xfinity/Comcast webmail but can not add it to Apple Mail.
Thank you for explaining what is going on more clearly. When You were setting up your account in the Mail app you were asked to provide the ID user name and password that you had earlier given to Comcast. What I am saying is that something there is not correct or it would be accepted by the Comcast site. Recheck them very carefully. You can also contact Comcast for help in getting set up.
Thanks again, Ronasara. The credentials are correct. I contacted Comcast a few months ago, before I bought a new Mac Mini and they replied that I should use Xfinity web mail. Now that I have a new computer I thought I would be able to set up the Comcast mail account. I was wrong. I am thinking of changing the password and seeing if that helps. It that doesn't help, I'm thinking of creating a new mail account on the Xfinity web site and seeing if I can add that to Apple Mail.
I also will call Apple Support and/or Apple Care+. This is so aggravating.
Here is a fact that I can share with you that may be helpful. I long ago stopped using Apple's Mail app. There are daily reports on this forum of difficulties with it. I have long used Thunderbird for may email and have never had any problems with it. I use it primarily with Earthlink but also have a Comcast account. No problems. I suggest trying Thunderbird and see what happens.

I just opened Connection Doctor and it only shows successful connections. I am trying to set up a new Comcast email account and have failed repeatedly.
Thanks, again. I am helping my 95 year old friend deal with her new Mac Mini that I bought for her. She can use Xfinity web mail but it is easier to use Apple mail.
I agree that using an app to get email is easier. All I was saying is that if the Mail app is somehow causing problems, sometimes using another app works.
