HomeSharing Not Displaying All Movies in Library

I've enabled homesharing on my iMac (Monterey) to allow my Apple TV to see the library and play my movies locally. About 3 months ago, all of the movies that I purchased via iTunes and downloaded to my iMac do not show up on the Apple TV as an option to watch. All of my movies are downloaded at 1080p and has not given me any issues over the last few years I have done this. Homesharing is working as I can see and play movies in the library from a while back.. I just don't see any of the new ones. I've tried disabling/re-enabling homesharing, signing out of iCloud and back in to no avail. Not sure if it helps, but I see the exact same behavior when browsing to the iMac library from my iPad as well. Everything of course displays fine from the TV app on the iMac itself.

Not sure what to do next in regard to troubleshooting or correcting the issue. Is it possible that there is something amiss with the library itself on the iMac? If so, is there a utility or something to rebuild and correct.

Thanks for your help!

Hello BillWhaley,

Thank you for reaching out to Apple Support Communities, and we'll be happy to help in any way we can. We understand you're having issues with your content using Home SHaring. TO start, check ou tthis helpful information to see if it resolves the issue: Use Home Sharing to share media from a computer to other devices - Apple Support

"Use Home Sharing on your Apple TV

To use Home Sharing to access your computer's media library on your Apple TV, sign in to Home Sharing on your Apple TV:

  1. Go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Home Sharing.
  2. Select Turn on Home Sharing.
  3. Sign in with your Apple ID. Use the same Apple ID for every computer or device on your Home Sharing network.

After you sign in, follow these steps to access your computer's media library on your Apple TV:

  1. Connect your Apple TV to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer.
  2. On your computer, open the Music app, Apple TV app, or iTunes for Windows.
  3. On your Apple TV, go to the Home screen, select Computers, and choose a shared library.

You can also view photos from your computer on your Apple TV.

  • On your Mac: Choose Apple menu  > System Preferences. Click Sharing. Click Media Sharing, then select Share Photos with Apple TV."

If those steps don't help, try this to resolve the issue:

1. Confirm the Apple TV and source Mac are up to date (Apple security updates - Apple Support).

2. If trying to share photos from a Mac, make sure the correct Photos library is set as the System Photo Library (Designate a System Photo Library in Photos - Apple Support)

3. Sign out of Home Sharing on the source computer, destination device(s), and any other Apple devices tied to the WiFi network.

4. Deauthorize the source computer for the Apple ID (Authorize or deauthorize your computer for iTunes Store purchases - Apple Support)

5. Power cycle the source computer and destination devices, as well as all network hardware.

6. Confirm the source computer is connected to the same WiFi name (SSID) as the destination device (avoid using Ethernet for this test).

7. Sign into Home Sharing on the source computer first (Use Home Sharing to share media from a computer to other devices - Apple Support).

8. Once successful, sign into Home Sharing on each destination device one at a time starting with the Apple TV, and testing the issue before signing into the next one.

If the issue persists, contact Apple Support directly for assistance here: Get Support

We hope this helps.

Cheers!
