The volume and power button stopped working on the 4K Apple TV remote. I was able to pair the remote with the Apple TV and the power is now working but the volume is not working. When I click up or down on the volume, the light on the Apple TV does blink.'

This worked for me! After the volume "down/home button held down for 5 seconds" (or more), the Apple TV 4K asked if I wanted to program something to control volume (which I already had done previously) and I clicked on no and backed out of the command. Voila, the volume and mute started working again. Brilliant.
Yes, this did not remedy the issue
I also noticed that the mute button doesn’t work
