Sidecar mirroring issue

I can connect my mac to my Ipad via sidecar, but it only wants to do so as an extended display. When I select the "mirror" option, the iPad goes to the lock screen. The computer appears to be mirroring, but does not show up on the Ipad.

I would use the dual screen (extended screen) option, but this makes my apple pencil not align correctly at the top and bottom of my screen. I use sidecar to present information in class so a mis-aligned apple pencil is a huge hassle.

I face similar issues, tried abovementioned steps. Also resolution settings disappeared with Monterey upgrade.

I also did the „did you try turn it on and off again“ kind of steps like NVRAM and PRAM reset.

This is very likely an abandoned driver/feature not adapted to Monterey (probably missed in favor of the ARM64 transition). Hopefully this time the bug gets fixed without calling second level support on a regular basis.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Connect your iPad Pro to your MacBook Pro either via cable or wifi
  2. Enable SideCar screen extension
  3. Change back to mirror integrated retina display
  4. iPad is on lockscreen without any SideCar enabled

Used devices: MacBook Pro 16 2019 and iPad Pro 12.9 2018

If this feature is abandoned please remove so tools like duet can fill this gap properly.

Thanks for reaching out, PicardMath00.

We see you're having an issue using your iPad and MacBook Pro with SideCar, and we'd like to help.

It looks like you have gone through the articleUse an iPad as a second display for a Mac, make sure that both your devices meet the "Additional requirements" section:

Additional requirements

- Both devices must be signed in with the same Apple ID using two-factor authentication. Sidecar does not support Managed Apple IDs.
- To use Sidecar wirelessly, both devices must be within 10 meters (30 feet) of each other and have Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Handoff turned on. Your iPad must not be sharing its cellular connection and your Mac must not be sharing its internet connection.
- To use Sidecar over USB, your iPad must be set to trust your Mac.

If all those conditions are met, we can try some additional steps:

On your MacBook Pro:

On your iPad Pro:

  • Reset your Network Settings. Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This also resets Wi-Fi networks and passwords, cellular settings, and VPN and APN settings that you've used before.

Give that a try and see if there is any improvement.

Take care.
