Youtube on Safari freeze issue after update to Macos 12.6

Dear all,

After updating my 2019 MBP 15'' base model to Macos 12.6 last week, I noticed that Youtube on Safari (17614.1.25.9.10, 17614) started freezing once in a while. I haven't found what specific steps are necessary to recreate the problem, nor how regularly it occurs, yet.

When the issue occurs, the page loads and the video controls and timer work OK, but the picture is frozen and there is no sound. Reloading the page, loading another video or live stream, closing the tab/window, fast forwarding don't help. The only way to resolve the issue is to quit Safari and start it again. No force-quit is necessary.

Has anyone else noticed something similar after the update to 12.6?

Cheers.

PS: Please, no canned "solutions" (reinstalled macos, reset smb and the like).

Hi ekorko,

Thanks for posting in Apple Communities.

With YouTube freezing in Safari, the best steps to address this is to reload the page using Command + R or to quit the page and relaunch the. Check for extensions that may be interfering.

  1. Open Safari
  2. Go the menu bar in Safari
  3. Choose Safari > Preferences
  4. Click on Extensions
  5. De-select extensions and check for the behavior.

In addition to these steps, reviewing Safari settings such as Privacy and web, may need to be adjusted.

Find these and additional steps to address the behavior in Safari in If Safari on Mac doesn't open a webpage or isn’t working as expected.

Regards.
