Google Maps Mangled - Unreadable - Massively Broken

I've been using Google Maps with Safari on my MacBook Pro since 2015. Today, for no good reason, Goole maps is mangled - meaning there's no possible way to see a map. The screen capture illustrates the problem.

This fixed it for me:

In the "Advanced" tab of the Safari settings window, at the bottom, enable "Show Develop menu in menu bar".

Open the "Develop" menu and, under "Experimental features", disable "WebGL via Metal".

What performace impact this has, if any, I do not know. But it did work for me.
