Text Edit used to open to a new document when I opened it. Somewhere along the line in recent OS updates, it now takes me to my files to open a document.
How can I get it back to opening a new document by default.

System Preferences > Apple ID > iCloud > iCloud Drive > Options… ☐ TextEdit. You want it unchecked. This will resume TextEdit opening to a blank document, and not the file chooser.
