I purchased a CD in May 2006 and uploaded it to iTunes/Apple Music in November 2020 according to Apple Music "info". I cannot play any of the tracks because they are protected AAC audio files according to "Get Info".
How do I get Apple Music to play my purchased files? I've been around the loop to "authorize" the computer. I keep getting asked to authorize the computer with no success. This is crazy.
I do not use iCloud to store my music files. I keep them on my Mac.
Were you ever an Apple Music or iTunes Match subscriber? Typically the symptoms you describe are associated with corrupt downloads of what should be non-protected content. Redownloading would resolve, but that would only apply if you had cloud copies available.

I should add that since we move a number of times I no longer have my CD. I don't want to buy duplicate CDs for every file that will not play in Apple Music so I'm hoping there will be a solution out there somewhere. Thanks.
It would have been iTunes and quite a while ago. When I go to Apple Music I can see my purchases but alas, I do not see the CD I'm looking for. I probably purchased the CD from Amazon or somewhere else. I do remember seeing the artist on the Jay Leno show and I immediately went ahead and purchased the CD.
I decided to purchase the CD again and I've deleted the existing Apple Music CD. On Amazon I am able to buy used CDs in very good condition for less than half their full price. This is the best solution given how many hours I've been wrestling with this problem. I also purchased two of the artist's other CDs this way and one of them arrived two days ago. I uploaded it to Apple Music with no problems. It was in great condition.
Thanks for your reply, I did read about the re-downloading option but I I prefer not to have monthly payments for anything. I have books where I keep all my CDs but this particular one is missing.
