Maps not loading in Maps

On brand new MacBook Pro M2 AND a brand new MacBook Air M2, Maps just doesn't work properly. The content in 3D view disappears and no amount of panning or zooming will force it to load or display. (The internet connection is fine.) How does one force the app to reload its content?

Here is an example:

MacBook Air Apple Silicon

Give this a try: boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

Absolutely nothing happens, Maps just doesn't pull data when it needs it and it doesn't cache it properly. Maps on my iPhone is working fine in the same location, pulling the same maps and satellite content, from the same wifi internet connection. Clearly this is a bug with Maps in Monterey.us:

He didn't say that. He said if it were a bug it would affect all users and it doesn't. You're the first to report it. Therefore it's unique to your setup and we're trying to determine why.

Download and run Etrecheck.  Copy and paste the results into your reply. Etrecheck is a diagnostic tool that was developed by one of the most respected users here in the ASC and recommended by Apple Support  to provide a snapshot of the system and help identify the more obvious culprits that can adversely affect a Mac's performance.

Copy the report

and use the Additional Text button to paste the report in your reply.

Then we can evaluate the report to see if we can determine the cause of the problem.

Do you have any 3rd party system modifications, VPNs, network hacks, or "security" apps installed? Such apps are impossible on iOS and that would likely be why you don't see the problem there. If this were a bug with Maps in Monterey, it would affect all users of Monterey, which it doesn't. Those locations look fine on my computer.

Of course I have apps such as Fusion 360 and Dropbox that have modified the system. I don’t agree that it would be possible without some exploit for an app to interfere with Maps’ network access. And even if it did, Maps should have the sense to cache data so that it doesn’t suffer from an intermittent network problem. Furthermore, as I have already stated, no other programs show any symptoms of network problems, including hours on end of streaming music and HD video. This also occurred on a brand new MacBook Pro without much installed. I don’t use a VPN and have no virus protection or security firewalls -even if I did, it’s poor form for this to occur with no error message or information.

Finally, I doubt very much your claim that this doesn’t happen to anyone else -how can anyone claim that?

By going to the same location in Apple Maps and observing that it looks fine. Therefore, it can’t be a problem that is endemic to all installations of Monterey.

If you are also seeing this problem on another computer, then it could be a problem with your WiFi router and/or your Internet service.
