Unfortunately, that is currently not supported.

IPlayer BBC no subtitles Why no subtitles for iPlayer BBC on my Apple TV+ 4k but don’t forget deaf people who imported need watch it without subtitles it not fair! I’m deaf person and need sort update for Apple TV+ for iPlayer BBC only but Netflix and other more has subtitles it not understanding why not iPlayer BBC? Unhappy and disappointed. Thank you, Urquhart1244. The BBC statement isn't dated, I think. Do you know when it was posted and if we can expect progress on this any time soon?

I have no other information beyond the statement. BBC is the app publisher. Only they can order new functionality for it. Only they would know about progress, if any.
