Upgrade to Monterey does not allow Time Machine to backup
Has anyone figured out a way to get Time Machine to work with Monterey OS?

I am on a MacBook Air. Have never had a problem using TM. After upgrading to Monterey ten days ago, my backups started going extremely slowly and would ultimately fail to complete. When I let the process go on indefinitely, that uncompleted backup hung up at 64% after about 18 hours. I do not get an error message. It simply stops working. My Seagate drive is in APFS. Have read that others have encountered this same problem. This external drive is fairly new and has worked fine for over a year.
