Will a DVI montor work to veiw my macbook pro 2017 15 that has a broken screen?

I have a MacBook Pro 2017 15" that has a broken screen that is unreadable. Can I use a DVI monitor to view what is going on with it. I was able to transfer the data to a new MacBook Air now I want to see if it is working and if replacing the display is worth the money. Thank you for any advice.

YES, you can use a DVI display, at up to 1920 wide, with a cheap adapter from a USB-C port.

If you get only "wallpaper", that can the fixed "blind" by entering:

Command-BrightnessDown

... to toggle the sense of [√] Mirror displays.
