How do I stop my laptop from connecting to my iPhone hotspot (using same Apple ID)

My laptop network preferences recognizes my iPhone 8 Personal Hotspot (even though that is turned OFF on my phone) My cellular data drains

how can I disable / forget network from my lMacBook Air (M1, 2020)

do I have to use a separate Apple ID for each device?

The issue is exacerbated by ...

...devices with the same Apple ID have automatic access to the Personal Hotspot on your iPhone, which means that they can turn it on without prompting you for permission.

Hello cainester,

Thanks for posting in the Apple Support Communities.

If Personal Hotspot is turned off along with "Allow Others to Join" being disabled, your MacBook Air shouldn't be connecting or enabling this on it's own. Let's confirm those are turned off on your iPhone with these steps: How to set up a Personal Hotspot on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

Disconnect devices

To disconnect a device, turn off Personal Hotspot, turn off Bluetooth, or unplug the USB cable from your device.

If you see that your MacBook Air is connected with Personal Hotspot with it being disabled, let's confirm that you're up-to-date with the latest iOS version on your iPhone to be sure that's not related. If an update is available, back up your information first: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

We hope that helps.

Have a great day!
