Same contact, different numbers, one thread

Has there been any updates to being able to have each phone number within the same contact card, being able to have individual text threads ? The most recent post I found was this one from 2019….

”Question:

Q:

Same contact with different numbers in the same message thread

My brother has a Google Pixel 2 XL for his personal phone and an iPhone 7 for his work phone. I have both numbers saved under one contact. On previous phones, it would show in the messages tab as two separate conversations - One for the iMessage (work phone) and text messages (personal phone) .. After setting up the iPhone 11 Pro Max the threads are combined into one. It makes it extremely difficult to switch between which one I am texting. Is it possible to separate the threads again?”

jdo_apple I have the same issue with my wife. I have one contact card with all her info including multiple phones. No matter which phone number I choose from the contact card to send the message, it defaults to the last phone she sent me a message from. My messages are green. My iPhone 13 was set up from a backup. Looks like this is a BUG in iMessage from the brief research I've done. I don't know why I should have to make separate cards for each of her phones.

Hello Bluntblonde,

It's a pleasure to have you reaching out in Apple Support Communities. To clarify, when you send your brother a text message do you go to his contact card and select which number you'd like to text? If so, and the same issue occurs, let's create a contact for each phone number to see if you experience the same behavior: Add and use contact information on iPhone - Apple Support

Also, to get a better understanding of the issue, we'll need to ask you a few questions:

• Did you set up your iPhone 11 Pro Max as new or was it restored from a backup?

• When the threads are combined, do the messages appear in blue or green ?

We look forward to hearing back from you.

Best regards.
