sbcglobal.net email account

Following repeated notices indicating "Yahoo! Password Required," I have tried to reset my password but with no success, despite inserting my current sbcglobal.net password. To reset the password takes me to a site requiring my Yahoo account information, which I do not have, to be entered to be able to chat, let alone speak to a person. To get assistance, I called the phone number posted online, but a recorded message indicated I would need to have my credit card ready first. Curious! The Q&A posted in Apple discussions date from 2012, a time before sbcglobal accounts were sold by AT&T to Yahoo. I also have a GMail account, but I continue getting a lot of mail in the sbcglobal mail account and hesitate to close it voluntarily. Advice? Thank you.
