Firmware password question...

Is there a way I can make my macbook require the firmware password everytime I turn it on instead of only when booting from a seperate disk or accessing recovery mode?

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 12.5

If you have an Intel MacBook, then yes. If you have an M1/M2, then enable FileVault. (Please note, FileVault should likely be enabled on your Intel model as well - this is not a mutually exclusive recommendation).

No, the firmware password is only meant to prevent booting from media other than the internal boot drive. Your macOS user account(s) password are meant to protect the system when booting normally.

I would also like it to lock by firmware password even when booting from the same startup disk in my preferences which it doesn’t explain.
