"More than one device is trying to play music" notification; two devices, one Apple ID, individual Music subscription

I get the "More than one device is trying to play music" notification on both iPhone and MacBook whenever I play music on one device and try to switch to another. I am already on the Individual plan, do I really need to upgrade to a Family Plan to use both of my devices to play music?

Both devices are signed in with the same Apple ID.

I understand. The issue is not there if I stop playing music on my iPhone first. I guess I was hoping for better integration (similar to how Spotify works), where playing music on MBP would stop playback on iPhone and switch my AirPods to MacBook without the annoying pop-up. I understand that this is indeed how it's supposed to work, though. Is there at least a way to disable the notification?

Greetings rax94,

That's a great question. By no means would you need to subscribe to a Family plan to use Apple Music on your Mac and iPhone. With the prompt you're seeing, that's indicating that music is still playing or being used on your Mac when attempting to switch to your iPhone. If you stop the Music on your Mac, then start playing music on your iPhone do you see the same error? If so, quit Music on the Mac by clicking the Music in the top menu next to File, Edit, and View, then click Quit Music. You can also find the steps for quitting apps in the following article.

Hey there rax94,

Here’s how you can turn off notifications for Music on your iPhone:

1. Go to Settings > Notifications, then tap Siri Suggestions.
2. Turn off any app.

Here’s how you can do this for Mac:

1. Choose Apple menu  > System Preferences, then click Notifications.
2. Select an app in the left column.
3. To change the notification style, select Banners or Alerts. Or select None.
