How do I eject a USB drive from my Mac Book Pro?

Press the Eject button next to it in the Finder's sidebar, or choose Computer from the Finder's Go menu and eject it from the File menu.

I have noted that mounting and unmounting from DU keeps the thumb drive in the list of devices, but trashing it for the desktop removes the thumb drive from the listed devices and needs to be unplugged and replugged to get it working again. Unplugging the SeaGate external drive So let's say the data I uploaded is all I need to be sure I did for today, and the external drive called Seagate needs to be released. What do I need to do other than just pulling out the external attachment on the right side of the keyboard?

trying to eject a USB drive. None of the tutorials apply because nothing shows up on the desktop acknowledging the USP port being used Can't eject a thumb drive from the side port. tutorials refer to an identifying icon on the desktop. I find nothing to right click/eject.
