Meanwhile, as I recall, there are a number of apps in the App Store that have what you're looking for. One I found doing a quick search is called Chaarana. You could still use your Watch to record the run and close your rings.

Hi there. Apple Fitness Plus has Time to Run. For instance, there is one with Coach Cory at Yosemite National Park. He describes attractions while doing the run. You can use it for a treadmill workout.
