Bought a new MacBook Air, used "Migration Assist" to copy content from my previous machine. Following this action, I could connect to wifi but could not access the Internet (or email or Apple etc). Started new MacBook in "safe" mode and reinstalled Norton Security (which seems to have (partly) transferred with Migration Assist) all now OK!
