Error 102 trying to update MACOSX from mountain lion to El Capitan

Hello, I’m trying to update MACOSX from mountain lion to El Capitan on a 2012 Mac book pro. Getting error 102 message. This was recently wiped and has had an internet reinstall of operating system which gave only option as mountain lion. Any tips?

Hello SallyP,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities!

If we understand your post correctly, while trying to update your Mac you're getting an 102 error message.

Let's try an NVRAM reset to see if that helps to get the install going.

You may also try to start up in safe mode and try installing the OS.
