Can you train dictation in iOS 15.6.1?

Way back in iOS 10, it was possible to train speech-to-text under Accessibility > Speech. That option appears to be gone or moved. Is there a way to correct dictation in iOS 15.6.1 when it persistently writes the wrong thing no matter how clearly I enunciate? Note: I am not talking about training Siri. I'm talking only about the speech-to-text function.

Referring me to support does not answer my question. Is there a way to train the voice-to-text dictation function, as was possible in earlier iOS releases?

Thank you. No blue lines are given, only the incorrect transcription.

Tapping on a word to highlight it, of course, shuts off dictation. I then have to tap the microphone to restart it, and we’re right back where it started.

The problem isn’t just words. There are words it recognizes just fine except in combination.

It hypercorrects. I can speak slowly, one word at a time, and then at the end it will abruptly “correct “ what I said to something I didn’t say; e.g., “the” abruptly becomes “a” or vice versa.

Some words it insists on treating as two (e.g., “dictator ships” vs “dictatorships”). It will put digits in sentences where number words would be more appropriate.

I’d like to teach it proper nouns that it thinks it recognizes but doesn’t, such as personal and place names.

I’m a former radio announcer. I know how to speak clearly in a neutral accent. Enunciation isn’t the problem.

Is there a way to teach the tool dictation that it consistently gets wrong?

Thanks for reaching out, NDeanM.

It sounds like you're using Dictation on your iPhone, but it isn't giving you the results you expect. We can help.

"If dictation isn’t sure what word it heard, you'll see a blue line under the transcribed word so you can check it for accuracy. To make corrections, tap the underlined word, then select the correct spelling. To replace a word, double-tap it, tap the microphone button , then say it again, and tap the keyboard button". You can learn more here: Use Dictation on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

Give that a try, and see if there is any improvement.

Take care.

NDeanM,

We did some testing and checked out the resources below and it does not appear to be possible to train the Dictation function, but we always welcome suggestions. You can send yours here if you'd like: Product Feedback - Apple

These resources cover the available functions for Dictation for reference:
