Reply to email is sent from wrong email address

I have read inquiries about this problem going back to 2012, yet the issue persists. Surely this is something the Apple geniuses can fix.

My problem: I use 2 different email addresses on my IOS devices - let’s call them A and B. I send all my new emails from A and it is my default account in settings. When I receive an email it is addressed to A because that is the email address I want the public to know. However, when I reply to an email, the Mail application often chooses to use account B as the ‘sent by’. That is a problem for me for many reasons not relevant here. Yes, I know I can take the time to carefully check the reply to be sure it used the correct account (A), but I don’t always remember to do that, and I should not have to do that. Apple products cost a lot because they are supposed to be the best, yet this simple to fix problem has gone uncorrected all these years. I have read all the suggested fixes and work-arounds and have tried them. Deleting the ‘wrong’ account (B) and adding it back worked briefly, but soon reverted back to same erroneous behavior.

For reference, you should know I use the same email setup on my Windows laptop in the Outlook application and I have NEVER had this problem there. I also have the Outlook mail app on my iPad with the same addresses and don’t have the problem there. I choose not to regularly use the Outlook app on Apple because I don’t like the general functionality as well as Mail, but switching is an option that’s looking more attractive. I just wonder why Apple can’t figure out the problem, but Microsoft has.

is there any hope this will be fixed?

This solution assumes I want to take the extra step of SELECTING the ‘reply from’ address I want to use. Not so - I expect the software to have the intelligence to reply from the address from which the email was received. Doesn’t that make sense to everyone? Why would one want to confuse the correspondent by using a different, probably unknown, address in the response? This is a simple problem with a simple solution. Why don’t the answers simply acknowledge Theresa 10 years old problem and fix it?

I do have the recommended setting in place and my NEW messages are sent from the correct email address. HOWEVER, when I reply to an email received at the correct address, the ‘from’ address selected us the incorrect one. Do you know the answer to that? Apparently the software does not select the default address from settings.
