I transferred data from my previous iphone X to my new iphone 13 and it seemed completed. Then I received a text on my previous phone instead of my new phone - what should I do to get texts to show up on my new phone?

Did you move the active SIM card from your old iPhone to your iPhone? If NOT, then do so.
Also, Activate Messages and FaceTime on your new iPhone as well.
