Turn off predictive punctuation for Siri dictation of iMessage

Hi All -

I often use Siri to dictate texts when I'm on the go. I've gotten pretty good at dictating my own punctuation over the years. A few months ago, I noticed that "predictive" punctuation was appearing where I had not dictated any. I'm guessing some enterprising programmer at Apple thought they were doing us all a favor, but the problem is that the punctuation is almost always wrong! Because I am someone who cares about these things, I then have to manually go on my phone and make the corrections. Which, of course, completely defeats the purpose of the dictation.

I have tried turning off predictive punctuation in the Keyboard menu under General Settings, but that didn't make any difference. If someone has a fix, I'd be so grateful! I just want control of my ,.?()! back.

Settings - General - Keyboard - Dictation - disable Auto Punctuation (I think that will do it)

UPDATE: This does not happen when I use dictation within Messages, so it's not a setting within Keyboards. It's definitely a feature in Siri and I think it has to do with Siri detecting a pause and deciding whether to put a period or comma, depending on the word that follows. I haven't found a setting for Siri that controls this, so if anyone knows of how to do that, thanks in advance!

I updated to iOS 16 a few days ago and since that, I am finding commas and full stops (periods) in all the wrong places when I dictate into my iPhone 13. I use voice recognition to dictate all the time - into WhatsApp messages, text messages, emails etc. It's really annoying to now have to correct manually all the time - the punctuation with this new iOS upgrade doesn't make any sense and in any event, I was getting along just fine by using words like "comma", "question mark" - and it even recognised "full stop".

Write to Apple Feedback and also call Apple Support and make sure they pass the comment up the line to the engineers - that's the only way Apple will be likely to fix it.

Thanks Doctor, this is exactly what I'm talking about -- so annoying! Don't know why it is happening to me before installing iOS16, but at least now other will understand my frustration. Nothing worse than when someone take a perfectly good shortcut and tries to "improve" it in a way that causes MORE work and not less!

Do you know if there's a way to turn off predictive punctuation in iOS16? I haven't found a way to do that in earlier operating system.
