Streaming via hdmi adapter

We use the Lightning Digital AV Adapter to stream content from the Apple TV app via HDMI to our tv. We live in a rural area with no internet so our only option to watch things is to download to our phones when we have internet or Wi-Fi access and then watch it when we get home using the hdmi adapter we purchased through Apple. This has worked fine until recently. Now we can see the previews and intro but when the show starts we get audio but messed up video. The picture consists of moving blobs of different colors.
