NO SOUND FOR INCOMING TEXTS AND EVERYTHING IS TURNED ON

Why does apple think we are so dumb that we cannot perform basic troubleshooting? My phone is STILL not getting sound notifications for incoming texts (and sometimes phone calls). I've gotten a new phone, upgraded phone plan, gotten a new SIM card, turned on notifications for sound, messages and phone. Still, I don't get sound notifications for texts. Apple, FIX THIS!
