Have a look at Using Dual SIM with an eSIM - Apple Support. If your phone was purchased in mainland China, Hong Kong or Macao, your XR will have a slot for two physical nano SIM cards. Everywhere else in the world, it will be equipped for one nano SIM and one eSIM.
