Make sure you have MMS turned on in settings.

If you can't send or receive messages on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Trouble sending receiving group messages I am having difficulty sending and receiving group messages. It seems I receive group messages 12 hours after they have been sent.
