reset notes password

I kept trying to reset my notes password since I had forgotten it, but when I had to enter my apple ID password it kept saying "You have to enter your Apple ID and password" and an OK button so there's obviously something wrong

iPhone XR, iOS 15

According to Lock your notes on iPhone - Apple Support, If you forget your notes password, and you can’t use Face ID or Touch ID to unlock your notes, you won’t be able to view your locked notes, and Apple can’t help you regain access to those locked notes.

and You can reset your notes password, but this doesn’t give you access to previously locked notes. The new password applies to all notes you lock from now on.

If you forgot it, you can't access them or reset it.

There seem to be two very different issues you’re addressing here.

  1. ”I kept trying to reset my [N]otes password…” - See 1AppL3User2AnotHER’s response above.
  2. ”but when I had to enter my apple ID password it kept saying ‘You have to enter your Apple ID and password’" - This sounds like you’re not carefully following directions. Apparently you’re only entering a password when you’re being asked for both an ID and password.

Then you have just learned how incredibly important that locked notes password was to remember. You can try forever, but until you remember the locked notes password, the notes will remain locked. If you can't remember it, they will remain locked forever.

When you created the locked notes password, you were given the opportunity to create a password hint. If you didn't, that's going to make it harder to recall the password.

It is critically important to note important passwords somewhere for future recall. Something as simple as a little notebook kept in a safe location, can be a good place to write important passwords down.

There is nothing anyone here or at Apple can do to help you in this regard.
