If I have apple care on my AirPods and I accidentally wash them how do I get them replaced

How does apple care work for my son’s AirPods? We accidentally washed them. Noise canceling doesn’t work well now. How much do I pay since I purchased the extra coverage?

Apple Care with damaged Air Pod Pro Recently my airpods Pro transparency mode has stopped working because something has gotten into the airpods microphone making it unable to have the outside noise feed into my ear. If I were to get apple care right now for my Airpods, would it be "free" to go in and ask an expert at an Apple store for help and possibly repair or replace the Airpod?
