iPad Black/White reading at Night

I hope someone knows how to fix this situation on my wife's iPad.

She reads late at night with the lights out. She start out with the bed light on and the text is black on white background. As soon as she puts the bed light out, the text turns to white with a black background. She wants the black text with white background. I tried a few things w/o luck.

Is there way to fix this problem?

budspwr,

Thank you for clarifying. This would be the Auto-Night Theme settings in Books, which is supported in some books. When enabled, it will automatically change the color and brightness of the book in low lighting conditions such as when the lights are turned off as you described. To disable it you'll want to follow these steps:

  1. Tap the page, tap the Appearance button
  2. Select Dim the screen when it’s dark: Turn off Auto-Night Theme.

To learn more about this feature, check out the following guide, specifically the section "Change text and display appearance":

Read books in the Books app on iPad

Hope this helps!

Have a great day.

Hey there, budspwr!

Thank you for posting in Apple Support Communities.

It sounds like she has the iPad set up to change to dark mode automatically. You can check this by going to Settings > Display & Brightness. You will want to turn this off so it doesn’t automatically change when she turns off the lights.

If it still happens, you will want to look into the settings of the app she is using to read.

Kindest regards.
